Fighting modern-day slavery: a conversation with Ishaan Shah

Slavery is often thought of as a thing of the past, but the harsh reality is that it still exists in many forms today. From forced labor to human trafficking, modern-day slavery affects millions of people around the world. However, there are individuals and organizations dedicated to ending this evil practice. In this exciting event, we have the privilege of sitting down with Ishaan Shah, a prominent young leader in the fight against modern-day slavery. Join us as we dive into this important conversation and learn more about the work being done to eradicate slavery and protect the basic human rights of all people. Ishaan is the first Youth Focal Point for the Review and Implementation of the UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), a UN Women National Gender Youth Advocate, the UN’s Migration Youth and Children’s Platform Contemporary forms of Slavery and Trafficking in Persons Specialist, a Youth Representative on the UN Network on Migration’s Civil Society Action Committee, and a UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Young Champion. Through this work, Ishaan is promoting meaningful youth participation and co-leadership in decision-making processes at all levels. 

The topics covered in the event include the work of Stolen Dreams at the UN on fighting modern slavery, gender and human rights, the impact of conflict on trafficking and the role youth as co-leaders and partners in the fight against modern slavery. The event was hosted by Sam Crooks, one of our Events Officers.   

The event will be hosted through Zoom and there will be an opportunity to ask questions during the event.
