Next-Gen Security Roundtable : Securing Tomorrow for the Youth of Today
This online roundtable hosted by the Institute for a Greater Europe will attempt to put the international community’s best foot forward by gathering stakeholders from policy and academia in a conversation designed to prepare the youth of today for the threats of tomorrow.
🔮Predicting the future may be a fool’s game but preparing for it is not. As the threat of an ever-changing climate looms ever further over our future and as worries about the proliferation of hybrid-warfare techniques proliferate themselves, the challenges of the future appear to be strikingly different from those of the past. Thus, as the youth of today become the leaders of tomorrow, it is more important than ever to ensure that the next generation of academics, ministers and journalists are prepared for the threats of the future. 🔹Emma Hakala is a Senior Research Fellow at FIIA, a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Helsinki and a member of the BIOS Research Unit. Her research focuses on environmental security and the geopolitics of climate change. Her previous research topics include environmental security cooperation in the post-conflict Western Balkans, the intersections of environmental security and policy coherence, and the integration of climate change into preparedness and security policy in Finland.
🔹Alexandra Marksteiner is a Researcher with the SIPRI Military Expenditure and Arms Production Programme. In this capacity, she collects and analyzes data on military spending and the arms industry. Among her areas of research are the international presence of arms companies and the financial value of arms exports, as well as trends in US and German military expenditure.
🔹Håkan Tropp is an accomplished water governance and policy strategist and specialist with over 20 years of international hands-on experience to catalyse and facilitate water resources and services policy development and implementation in emerging and low-income economies in Africa and Asia. His focus areas include water governance and policy reform; climate adaptation; water security; water supply and sanitation; catchment management; water financing; and digitalization.
