The European Union and the United Nations: A Conversation with Ambassador Olof Skoog

Against a backdrop of the War in Ukraine, the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic and tensions between the West and China, it has never been more important for the European Union to safeguard and advance its interests at a global level. To gain more insight into how the EU is working towards this goal, join the Institute for a Greater Europe as we hear from Ambassador Olof Skoog, Head of the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York since 2019 and has served as Chairman of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission and President of the UN Security Council during his appointment.

Ambassador Skoog is a Swedish diplomat with extensive foreign policy experience and has previously served in positions including Director-General for Political Affairs in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first Permanent Chair of the EU Political and Security Committee and several ambassadorships.

The topics covered in the event will be Ambassador Skoog’s own career experiences as a diplomat, the question of how the EU can influence the global community at the UN in New York, and the ways in which individual EU member states can cooperate on foreign policy issues at global level. The event will be hosted by Sam Crooks, one of our Events Officers.

See you there!
