Othmar Karas - First Vice-President of the European Parliament
Othmar Karas (born 24 December 1957) is an Austrian politician (ÖVP) who has been serving as the First Vice-President of the European Parliament since January 2022, having been MEP since 1999. He held the position of Vice-President of the European Parliament already from 2019 to 2021 and from 2012 to 2014. Karas is also Vice-Chair of the FISC Subcommittee and Member of the ECON, ITRE and AFCO Committees. In 2017, Karas received his doctorate degree in political science from the University of Vienna. In addition to his activities as president of the Austrian "Hilfswerk", Karas founded the non-party association "Citizens' Forum Europe" in 2010 of which he is still the spokesman today. In the EP he is part of the EPP Group, where he held the Vice-Presidency from 2004 to 2011.
Roland Freudenstein – Vice President and Head of GLOBSEC Brussels
Roland Freudenstein was born in Bonn, Germany. After having worked as a research fellow at the German Council on Foreign Relations, he became a member of the foreign and security planning staff of the European Commission in Brussels in the 1990s. Subsequently, he became the director of the Warsaw office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and later held a leading function in the Foundation’s central office in Berlin. After coming back to Brussels in 2004, he represented the German city state of Hamburg to the EU. Beginning in 2008, Roland Freudenstein served as Head of Research and Deputy Director of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies and, since October 2015, as its Policy Director. In October 2021, Roland Freudenstein became Vice-President of GLOBSEC and Head of its Brussels office, his current position. At this conference we were extremely welcome to host him in a discussion on “The Russian Invasion of Ukraine - Implications for a Geopolitical Europe” as we explore what Europe, and Europe’s place in the world, will look like.
Diana Radjib – President of the Youth Association for a Greater Europe
Mrs. Diana Radjib has been President of the Youth Association for a Greater Europe since 2018, having joined the organisation in 2014 and being key to its Greater Europe Meetings. She has been working as a strategy consultant for several years focusing on electric vehicles and clean public transport.
Philippe Lefevre – Chair of the Institute for a Greater Europe
Mr. Philippe Lefevre has been Chair of the Institute since 2018 and a co-founder of the Institute from its start earlier that same year. He is a graduate from the University of York, Panthéon Sorbonne, KU Leuven, and College of Europe, and has completed traineeships at the EEAS and NATO. He has also been working with other youth NGOs for several years, and continues to work in outreach across Brussels.
